Common questions
The voice sounds robotic
RottenPDF uses the text-to-speech voices your device already has; it does not ship its own. A better voice installed in your system speech settings improves every app, this one included. The app walks you through installing one the first time you open it.
Nothing is read, or the app says my PDF is a scan
A scanned PDF is a stack of photographs of pages: there is no text in the file to read. RottenPDF tells you this rather than reading you silence. Text recognition for scans is not implemented yet.
Which formats work
PDF, DOCX, RTF and TXT. EPUB is not supported yet.
Does playback continue when I leave the app?
Not yet. Background listening is the next thing being built.
Where do my documents go?
Nowhere. A copy is kept in the app's private storage on your device so you can come back to it, and it is never uploaded. The app goes online only to download a web page you pasted the link to, and to show ads. See the privacy policy.
Why are there ads, and can they interrupt me?
Ads are what keeps the app free. They are a banner at the bottom of the library and under the player controls, and occasionally a full-screen ad before a document opens or after you close it — never while something is being read to you. If an ad ever stops, lowers or covers the reading, that is a bug: please write to us.
What is RottenPDF Plus, and how do I cancel it?
An optional monthly subscription that removes every ad and changes nothing else: no feature is reserved for subscribers. You find it in the library menu. It renews until you cancel, and you cancel where you bought it: on iOS in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, on Android in Google Play → your profile → Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
I subscribed to Plus but still see ads
Open the library menu, choose RottenPDF Plus and tap Restore purchases. The subscription belongs to the App Store or Google Play account that bought it, so the device must be signed in to that account. If it still does not work, write to us.
How do I change my ad privacy choices?
Where the law requires a consent choice, open the menu in the library and choose Privacy choices. On iOS you can also change tracking in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; on Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.

La voce suona robotica
RottenPDF usa le voci di sintesi che il dispositivo ha già; non ne porta di proprie. Una voce migliore installata nelle impostazioni vocali di sistema migliora ogni app, questa compresa. L'app ti accompagna nell'installazione la prima volta che la apri.
Non legge niente, o dice che il mio PDF è una scansione
Un PDF scansionato è una pila di fotografie di pagine: nel file non c'è testo da leggere. RottenPDF te lo dice, invece di leggerti il silenzio. Il riconoscimento del testo sulle scansioni non è ancora implementato.
Quali formati funzionano
PDF, DOCX, RTF e TXT. EPUB non è ancora supportato.
La riproduzione continua se esco dall'app?
Non ancora. L'ascolto in background è la prossima cosa in lavorazione.
Dove finiscono i miei documenti?
Da nessuna parte. Una copia resta nell'archivio privato dell'app sul tuo dispositivo, così puoi riprenderla, e non viene mai caricata. L'app va in rete solo per scaricare una pagina web di cui hai incollato il link, e per mostrare gli annunci. Vedi l'informativa sulla privacy.
Perché ci sono gli annunci, e possono interrompermi?
Sono gli annunci a tenere l'app gratuita. Sono un banner in fondo alla libreria e sotto i controlli del lettore, e ogni tanto un annuncio a tutto schermo prima che un documento si apra o dopo che lo hai chiuso — mai mentre ti viene letto qualcosa. Se un annuncio ferma, abbassa o copre la lettura, è un bug: scrivici.
Cos'è RottenPDF Plus, e come lo disdico?
Un abbonamento mensile facoltativo che toglie tutti gli annunci e non cambia nient'altro: nessuna funzione è riservata a chi si abbona. Lo trovi nel menu della libreria. Si rinnova finché non lo disdici, e si disdice dove lo hai comprato: su iOS in Impostazioni → il tuo nome → Abbonamenti, su Android in Google Play → il tuo profilo → Pagamenti e abbonamenti. Disinstallare l'app non lo disdice.
Ho Plus ma vedo ancora gli annunci
Apri il menu della libreria, scegli RottenPDF Plus e tocca Ripristina acquisti. L'abbonamento appartiene all'account App Store o Google Play che lo ha comprato, quindi il dispositivo deve essere connesso a quell'account. Se non basta, scrivici.
Come cambio le mie scelte sulla privacy degli annunci?
Dove la legge prevede una scelta sul consenso, apri il menu della libreria e scegli Preferenze sulla privacy. Su iOS puoi cambiare il tracciamento anche in Impostazioni → Privacy e sicurezza → Tracciamento; su Android puoi reimpostare o eliminare l'ID pubblicità in Impostazioni → Google → Annunci.
