RottenPDF — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026 · Versione italiana
RottenPDF reads your documents on your device and never uploads them. From version 1.1 the app shows ads, and the company that provides them — Google — collects some data in order to do so. This page says what that data is, and what stays out of it.
The short version
- Your documents never leave your device. Not to us, and not to the ad provider.
- No server, no account, no sign-up. RottenPDF has none of them.
- Anonymous usage statistics, only if you allow it. From version 1.1.1 the app counts which screens are used and a few actions — a document imported or opened, playback started — through Google Analytics for Firebase. Never the content, the title or the address of a document.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob. To serve and measure them, Google's software inside the app collects device identifiers, your IP address, how you interact with ads, and diagnostics.
- You decide whether ads may be personalised, and you can change that choice at any time.
- Ads never interrupt reading. They are a banner at the edge of the screen and, occasionally, a full-screen ad before a document opens or after you have closed it.
- Free to use. Every feature works without paying. An optional subscription, RottenPDF Plus, removes the ads; the payment is handled by Apple or Google and we never see it.
What happens to your documents
When you open a document in RottenPDF, the file is copied into the app's own private storage on your device so it can be read aloud and so you can return to it later. That copy stays on the device. It is not uploaded, backed up to a server of ours, indexed remotely, or transmitted anywhere.
The text is turned into speech by the text-to-speech engine that is already part of your operating system, using the voices already installed on your device. Which voices exist, and how they behave, is governed by your operating system, not by RottenPDF.
The content of your documents — their text, their titles, what you have read and how far — is never passed to the advertising software. Ads are not chosen from what you read.
Deleting a document from the app's library deletes the app's copy. Deleting the app removes everything the app ever stored.
Reading a web page from a link
If you paste a link, RottenPDF downloads that page from its website, the way a browser would, in order to read it aloud. The website you asked for therefore sees a request from your device, as it would if you opened the page in any browser. The text is then kept on your device like any other document. RottenPDF never fetches a page you did not ask for.
Advertising
Ads in RottenPDF are provided by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK, and consent is collected through Google's User Messaging Platform. To show ads, limit how often you see the same one, measure them and detect fraud, this software collects and sends to Google:
- Device identifiers — on Android, the advertising ID; on iOS, the advertising identifier only if you allow tracking when the system asks, otherwise an identifier limited to this app;
- Your IP address, from which an approximate location (country, city area) can be estimated;
- Ad interactions — which ads were shown and whether you tapped them;
- Diagnostics and performance data of the advertising software, such as crash logs and loading times.
Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and may share it with its advertising partners. See Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from apps that use its services. We do not receive this data and cannot identify you from it; what we see in our AdMob account are totals — how many ads were shown, in which countries.
Ads are restricted to content suitable for a general audience.
Usage statistics
From version 1.1.1 RottenPDF uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, so that we can see which parts work and which do not. It records:
- which screen is open — the library, the reader, reading a link, the voice guide, the RottenPDF Plus sheet;
- that a document was imported (and of which kind: PDF, Word, text, web page), opened, or started playing, and how many seconds were listened to before closing the reader;
- that the voice guide was started or completed, and that the subscribe button was tapped;
- what the Firebase software records by itself: first launch, sessions, app version, device model, operating system, country estimated from the IP address, and in-app purchases.
It never records the text, the title, the file name, the language or the web address of a document. The advertising identifier is not used for statistics, and the data is not used to choose ads or shared with Google's advertising services.
Statistics follow the same consent as ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland they are collected only if you agree, in the consent form, to storing and accessing information on your device; elsewhere they are collected without asking. If you withdraw that consent from Privacy choices, they stop at once. With RottenPDF Plus active, from the next time the app is opened the consent form is not shown and no statistics are sent.
The data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy and kept by Google Analytics for two months; what we see are totals and trends, not individuals.
RottenPDF Plus
RottenPDF Plus is an optional monthly subscription that removes all ads. It is bought through the App Store on iOS and through Google Play on Android, with the account and the payment method you already have there. Apple or Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy; we receive no name, no email address and no payment details, and we keep no record of who has subscribed.
To know whether to show ads, the app asks the store, on your device, whether a subscription is active for your store account. That answer stays on the device. While Plus is active the app requests no ads, and from the next time it is opened the advertising software is not started: no consent form is shown, no ad is requested and no usage statistics are sent.
The subscription renews every month until you cancel, which you can do at any time from your App Store or Google Play account. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
Your choices
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before any personalised ad is requested. You can refuse, or choose purpose by purpose. To change your mind later, open the menu in the library and choose Privacy choices.
iOS. The system asks whether RottenPDF may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the advertising identifier is not available to the app and ads are not based on it. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Android. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads (the exact path depends on your device). With the ID deleted, ads are not personalised with it.
Whatever you choose, the app works in exactly the same way. Refusing only makes the ads generic.
How you can verify this
Android. The app's permission list on Google Play shows network access and the advertising ID, which are what the two features above need — and nothing else: no access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone or files outside the documents you open yourself.
iOS. The App Store privacy details list the data the advertising and statistics software collects, which Apple requires to be accurate. No other third-party software in the app communicates off the device.
Children
RottenPDF is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Ads are limited to content rated for a general audience.
Your rights
Regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights over personal data held about you: access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection. We hold no personal data about you — no account, no profile, no copy of your documents — so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export, or erase. The usage statistics are tied to a random identifier of the app installation, not to you; deleting the app ends them. For the data collected by Google to provide ads and statistics, you can exercise those rights with Google directly, and you can withdraw your consent in the app at any time as described above. The data on your device is under your control and is removed when you delete the app.
Changes to this policy
Version 1.1.1 introduced the usage statistics described above. Version 1.1 introduced advertising and the optional RottenPDF Plus subscription. Earlier versions of this policy stated that the app made no network requests, showed no ads and had no paid tier: that was true up to version 1.0 and is no longer the case. Any future change of this kind will be described here before the version that brings it is released, and in the app's release notes.

RottenPDF — Informativa sulla privacy
Ultimo aggiornamento: 13 ottobre 2026
In breve
- Nessun server, nessun account, nessuna registrazione.
- Identificatori del dispositivo — su Android l'ID pubblicità; su iOS l'identificatore pubblicitario solo se consenti il tracciamento quando il sistema lo chiede, altrimenti un identificatore limitato a questa app;
- Il tuo indirizzo IP, da cui si può stimare una posizione approssimativa (paese, zona della città);
- Le interazioni con gli annunci — quali sono stati mostrati e se li hai toccati;
Statistiche d'uso
Dalla versione 1.1.1 RottenPDF usa Google Analytics for Firebase per capire come viene usata l'app, così da vedere quali parti funzionano e quali no. Registra:
- quale schermata è aperta — la libreria, il lettore, la lettura di un link, la guida alle voci, il foglio di RottenPDF Plus;
- che un documento è stato importato (e di che tipo: PDF, Word, testo, pagina web), aperto o fatto partire, e quanti secondi sono stati ascoltati prima di chiudere il lettore;
- che la guida alle voci è stata aperta o completata, e che è stato toccato il bottone per abbonarsi;
I rimborsi li gestisce Apple o Google.
Puoi cambiarlo in Impostazioni → Privacy e sicurezza → Tracciamento.
Android.
Qualunque cosa tu scelga, l'app funziona esattamente allo stesso modo. Rifiutare rende solo gli annunci generici.
Come puoi verificarlo
Android.
I tuoi diritti
